Burning a candle or wax melt in your home brings an instant ambience of warmth, relaxation, and cosiness. They create a beautiful soft incandescent light to any room.
At The Witch and Cauldron, we use pure soy wax for all our hand-poured candles and wax melts. Read below for our thoughts on the benefits of soy wax and why we use it for all our candles and wax melts.

Different Types of Candle Wax.
There is a huge selection of different types of candle wax available on the market. These include paraffin wax, beeswax, coconut wax, rapeseed wax, and of course, soy wax. At The Witch and Cauldron, all our candles and wax melts are made from pure soy wax, because we believe pure soy wax provides the longest and cleanest burn, is free from carcinogens, has excellent fragrance-holding qualities, and is eco-friendly.
What is Soy Wax Made From?
Soy wax is a vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans. After harvesting, the beans are cleaned, cracked, de-hulled, and rolled into flakes. The oil is then extracted from the flakes and hydrogenated. The hydrogenation process converts some of the fatty acids in the oil from unsaturated to saturated. This process dramatically alters the melting point of the oil, making it a solid at room temperature. The leftover bean husks are then used as animal feed.

List of benefits of Soy Wax Candles.
We often get asked why soy candles are better than other candles, and the truth is there are many reasons. Here are a few reasons why soy wax is the best type of wax for candle and wax melt making:
Soy is a Natural Material.
Soy candles and wax melts are made from completely natural materials, unlike paraffin wax candles, which are made from petroleum.
Soy is Vegan
Soy wax is 100% plant based. There is no harm done to our planet as soy wax is plant based rather than extracted from oil. Once the soybeans have been harvested more can be grown again and again.
Soy is Sustainable.
Soybeans are a renewable and sustainable material. The production of soy candles and wax melts does not involve the use of fossil fuels, like petroleum-based paraffin wax.
Soy Wax is Non-Toxic.
Being a natural material, soy wax is considered non-toxic. Other types of wax often contain chemical fragrances (which some find induce headaches) and scent boosters. Paraffin wax gives off carcinogens when burned.
Natural Soy Wax Has a Better Fragrance.
The natural scent from unperfumed soy candles is much stronger and more pleasant than the scent from paraffin wax candles. Soy Wax candles don’t require any chemicals to scent them.
Long Lasting.
Soy wax candles last for approximately 50% longer than paraffin candles. Because of this, they are far more cost-effective.

How To Use Soy Wax Candles.
Soy wax candles are different from the paraffin candles and shouldn’t be used the same way. Soy wax candles are much more delicate compared to other candles and can be damaged or discoloured by strong light sources such as sunlight. Soy candles, therefore, should never be exposed to artificial light or sunlight.
Soy wax has a low melting point and can begin to soften or melt at temperatures above 25ºC, therefore this type of candle should always be stored at room temperature. If your candle does begin to melt, we recommend you place the candle in a cooler area of your home.
